Official Opening
The official opening of the Kalaydjian Rest Home took place on the 6th of March 1988 by the then Minister of the Interior Mr.Christodoulos Veniamin, with the religious blessings of Catholicos Karekin II of the Holy See of Cilicia and Bishop Yeghishe Manjikian of the Armenian Prelature of Cyprus.
In the presence of a large crowd of Armenian Cypriots, Mr. Veniamin congratulated the Kalaydjian brothers whose great efforts had made the establishment of the home a reality, and welcomed Catholicos Karekin II who he said “must feel proud of the progressive gestures of the children of the Armenian church which he directs.
The Representative of the Armenian Religious Group in the House of Representatives, Mr. Aram Kalaydjian, said in his speech that the main objective of the Rest Home was to re-unite Armenians who during the last years of their life would like to remember their traditions and customs. He also thanked the Cyprus Government for its genuine interest in the Armenians and other minorities of Cyprus.
The Rest Home originally comprised 12 rooms that surrounded a central courtyard. There was also a large dining area and a sitting room with a library.
